Cragganmore 12 Year Old is the flagship expression of the Cragganmore Distillery and a key representative of Speyside single malts. Known for its complexity and elegance, this whisky is part of Diageo’s Classic Malts Selection and is widely respected among connoisseurs for its subtlety and layered flavor profile. Cragganmore 12 Year Old has earned high praise for its balance and complexity, often recommended to those transitioning from lighter Speyside malts to more nuanced drams. It has consistently scored well in industry competitions and among whisky writers.

Tasting notes;
Appearance/colour; Liquid Gold.
Nose; An aromatic blast of citrus to begin with – orange and lemon oil – then soft aromas of toffee, roasted almonds and malted biscuits follow. Very clean and appetising, with a gentle floral character.
Palate; The fresh citrus notes continue on to the palate, joined by sweet toffee, malt and oat biscuits. Very clean and refreshing.
Finish: The gentle maltiness fades lightly.

Distillery History:

Founded by Speyside legend Big John Smith in 1869 John Smith was one of the most experienced distillers of his day, having worked at Glenlivet, Macallan, and Glenfarclas. When he established Cragganmore, he chose its location specifically because it was close to the Strathspey Railway and the Craggan Burn for water. He was also among the first to insist on using rail transport for moving whisky, ensuring wider distribution and commercial success.Cragganmore was created using a pioneering flat-top pot still design to create the sweetest, most complex of malt whiskies. Cragganmore Scotch can count barley and Scotland’s fastest flowing river as two of its natural influences. In fact, Big John chose the location precisely because of the plentiful supply of spring water, and the connection to the Great Highland Railway line. In fact, Cragganmore was the first Speyside distillery to take advantage of railway transport as a means of bringing in raw materials, and sending out their delicious, unique malt.

Cragganmore was marketed by United Distillers under their Classic Malts brand. United Distillers has since become a part of Diageo.
