Glenfiddich Gran Cortes XXII Whisky was aged for 22 years, and then finished in rare Spanish Palo Cortado Sherry casks. The single malt gets its name from the grand palaces of Spain. In order to create the exceptional Scotch, Glenfiddich malt master Brian Kinsman visited wineries across Andalucía, exploring the world of Spanish winemaking. “We researched age-old processes, testing finishing times and maturations to find the perfect composition of character, depth and aroma,” said Kinsman. “After careful experimentation, we found our match.
The 22-year-old Glenfiddich malts from our old-age collection were finished in Palo Cortado oak casks. The alchemy that takes place in the oak casks pushes the boundaries once again. The finished product is a truly unique whisky with a dark red hue and distinctive character. It’s an unforgettable spirit to mark the most special occasions. The Glenfiddich Gran Cortes XXII comes in a Sherry-red box and has been created exclusively for consumers in Mainland China and Taiwan.

Distillery History:
Glenfiddich was founded in Dufftown by William Grant, who had honed his craft at Mortlach distillery; and on Christmas Day 1887 the first spirit ran from the stills. Thanks to Grant's tenacity and stubborn self belief, the distillery flourished during a period of turbulence in the industry, and has grown to become one of the best selling brands of single malt whisky in the world, only occasionally trading the number one spot with fellow Speyside behemoth, Glenlivet.
Still owned by the Grant family today, the pioneering distillery is responsible for a lot of "firsts" in whisky world. Perhaps most importantly, they were the first to really promote the idea of drinking whisky as a single malt as opposed to in blends. They were also the first distillery to open their doors to the public, sparking a trend that has undoubtedly benefited the Scottish tourist industry greatly.
Boasting a solid core range of expressions that are easily accessible to whisky newcomers, yet have layers of complexity that appeal to seasoned connoisseurs alike. There's a reason Glenfiddich is numero uno!
Glenfiddich Distillery is one of the most renowned and celebrated single malt Scotch whisky producers in the world, established in 1887 by William Grant in the Speyside region of Scotland. Glenfiddich, which translates to “Valley of the Deer” in Gaelic, is named after its scenic location in Dufftown along the River Fiddich.
Key Milestones in Glenfiddich History:
-
Foundation and Early Days:
- In 1887, after years of preparation, William Grant and his family completed building the Glenfiddich distillery by hand. It was one of the few distilleries to begin operation during a challenging period for the Scotch industry.
- The first drop of spirit flowed from the stills on Christmas Day of 1887.
-
Family-Owned Legacy:
- Glenfiddich has remained independently owned by the Grant family for five generations, which is rare in an industry dominated by large corporations. This independence has allowed Glenfiddich to maintain a unique and traditional approach to whisky-making.
-
Innovation and Resilience:
- In the 1920s, during Prohibition in the United States, Glenfiddich continued production, unlike many distilleries that ceased operations. This decision helped establish Glenfiddich as a leading brand once Prohibition was lifted.
- In the 1950s, Glenfiddich pioneered the use of triangular green bottles and distinctive branding, setting it apart from other Scotch whiskies.
- In 1963, Glenfiddich became one of the first distilleries to actively market single malt whisky internationally, helping to popularize single malts globally.
-
On-Site Cooperage and Maturation:
- Glenfiddich is unique in maintaining its own on-site cooperage and coppersmith, allowing it to manage and repair its own casks and copper stills. This control contributes to the high quality of the whisky.
- The whisky matures in American oak, European oak, and other seasoned casks, allowing for a range of flavor profiles, from fruity and floral to rich and complex.
-
Sustainable Practices and Modern Innovations:
- In recent years, Glenfiddich has invested in sustainability, with innovations like the use of biogas-powered distillation and renewable energy initiatives.
- New product lines such as the Experimental Series (including Glenfiddich IPA Cask and Fire & Cane) showcase their willingness to innovate while maintaining high standards.
Today, Glenfiddich remains one of the most awarded single malt Scotch whiskies, with a global reputation for excellence and a pioneering spirit that respects tradition. Its core expressions, like the 12, 15, and 18-year-old single malts, are widely celebrated, while its rare, aged expressions attract collectors worldwide.
